Sabai Sabai – Harborne

A Taste of Thailand

Sabai Sabai of  Harborne creates fine Thai cuisine served to an excellent standard in stylish contemporary surroundings.

The blending of fabulous Thai food served with upbeat city chic has made this stylish Thai restaurant popular for all occasions, from romantic evenings to big celebrations and corporate events because quality of experience brings people together.

Husband and wife team, Torquil and Juree Chidwick, first opened Sabai Sabai as a small, cosy, family-run Thai restaurant in Moseley 10 years ago with just 25 covers.

Torquil who was born and raised in Moseley and Juree whose family are Thai were both straight out of Bradford University at the time and found that running a small business was a huge learning curve. To make their dream a success they enlisted the help of their family to help get the business off the ground. Chef Suvanna, Juree’s Thai mother, ran the kitchen for a year with Ciaran, Torquil’s brother, working front of house.

In 2005 they negotiated an extension of the Moseley branch, upping their covers to 44 with Yui, Juree’s cousin, as manager. Torquil and Juree then set their sights on a new venture in Harborne. Despite people thinking they were taking on too much of a risk, they pushed on and opened their second venue in a new development on Harborne High Street in 2011.

The Harborne restaurant oozes a subtle eastern sophistication with carved wooden benches and low inviting lighting. With panoramic floor to ceiling windows lighting the interior so well, the 92 cover restaurant has mastered contemporary chic and the menu has proven very popular amongst the locals.

Juree Chidwick, “My heart has always been in Thailand and with my most of family working as chefs or owning restaurants over there, it seemed only natural to open a restaurant and bring a little bit of Thailand to us. We’re so happy that Sabai Sabai has done so well and hope that we are able to continue to grow.”

The Harborne venue is beautiful with floor to ceilings windows and chunky wooden furniture in a big but cosy space. Having sampled this seven course feast here, you will never have seen dishes from the Far East more elegantly presented, classically prepared or exquisitely flavoured than you do here.

In a nut shell, Thailand is known as the land of smiles; Sabai Sabai means chill out. Combine these two and you have dining at Sabai Sabai.
