Four years ago Max Mason established the concept of a top quality Bangers and Mash restaurant using locally sourced, gourmet sausages of all sorts, both meat and vegetarian. Each served with a variety of great flavours of mash and a cracking selection of gravies – Britain’s favourite food, served in welcoming surroundings. 

It was after experiencing too many chain restaurants where food is mass produced, characterless and like nothing you would ever want to pay good money for. Six years later, this 130 seat restaurant has become Oxford’s favourite, a part of the ancient city which feels like it’s always been there.  The Big Bang is able to be brilliant small restaurant which supports local, small-scale, independent suppliers, a brand which supports and contributes to the local economy, not to the balance sheet of another chain.

The Big Bang is proudly supplied by any number of local suppliers, farmers, brewers and butchers and wine suppliers and is the epitome of Oxford’s England.
