The Fox & Hounds Inn at Great Wolford
Set in the rolling hills on the boundary between Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and Oxfordshire lies the pretty village of Great Wolford. At the heart of the village you will discover the Fox and Hounds, the quintessential unspoiled English country inn.
The inn nestles on the edge of the Cotswolds within a convenient distance of Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Cheltenham and landlords have been welcoming weary travellers with food, drink and comfortable beds since 1540. The surrounding market towns of Chipping Campden, Stow on the Wold and Moreton in Marsh with their antique shops and other attractions are within a short drive helping to make the Fox and Hounds the ideal location for a wonderfully relaxing break in the Cotswold countryside.
Visitors and local residents alike appreciate the quality of the beers, wines and fresh-cooked local food, not to mention the log fires burning in the great inglenook fireplace throughout the winter. Children and well-behaved pets are very welcome
The Fox & Hounds is very much a family-run business.
Chef Jamie Tarbox’ clear vision of the food he serves his guests encapsulates the best of modern British cuisine. Embracing both traditional English & European dishes he seasons them with influences from around the world.
With parents in the pub trade Jamie’s interest in food began early. He is passionate about using the very best of the local produce wherever possible and his work shows a deep respect and excitement for the area’s seasonal bounty.
The kitchen is always busy making the sausages, bacon, chutneys, pickles, and condiments that appear in and alongside the dishes. All of the bread is baked on the premises using fresh yeast and organic flour milled in the Cotswolds. Fresh herbs and vegetables from the carefully tended and productive garden are used extensively when in season.
Jamie’s menus feature Dexter beef from the village of Chastleton, venison from Todenham and seasonal game from local shoots. Locally gathered herbs and wild mushrooms are widely used but, marooned in landlocked Warwickshire, Jamie sources fresh sea fish, shellfish and crustaceans from Scotland and Cornwall.
The well-balanced menus also contain dishes inspired by Jamie’s travels around the world with partner Sioned. Influences have been drawn from Italy and Spain to New Zealand and Australia to offer colour and variety.
Sioned’s culinary skills feature in the dessert menu where you’ll find much-loved traditional English puddings alongside other luscious delights.
